Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck surgery which is also known as abdominoplasty removes excess fat and skin and in most cases it restores weakened or separated muscles, creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.

What is tummy tuck?

Many women around the world try to deal with excess or left skin, fat deposits or stretch marks after pregnancy or weight loss. Nowadays, the most common way to remove those fat deposits, reshape the area and create slimmer, smoother and tighter abdominal area is tummy tuck surgery or abdominoplasty. Tummy tuck procedures are often performed with liposuction to improve body contours and of course may be performed alone according to your request.

How is tummy tuck performed?

Tummy tuck procedure is generally performed under general anaesthesia. A horizontal incision is made just above the pubic hairline. The length of this lower abdominal incision is determined by the amount of excess skin.

The skin is then dissected up toward the rib cage, the muscle is tightened, the belly button is repositioned, and excess skin is removed. Our plastic surgeon may also recommend combining liposuction with your tummy tuck procedure for the best results.

It’s important that the surgical incisions are not subjected to excessive force, swelling, abrasion, or motion during the time of healing. Your doctor will give you specific instructions on how to care for yourself.

What can tummy tuck do?

Your tummy tuck will result in a flatter, firmer abdominal contour that is more proportionate with your body type and weight. Within a week or two, you should be standing tall and confident in your new slimmer profile. Sometimes it takes several weeks of couple of months to see final result.

Please acknowledge that results of tummy tuck are technically permanent, but any significant change in your weight such as dramatic weight loss or any future pregnancy will have a negative effect on results of your surgery and its results. Also, please note that tummy tuck is not an alternative for weight loss or exercise.

Are you a candidate?

Tummy tuck surgery is a highly individualized procedure, and you should do it for yourself, not to fulfil someone else’s desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image. If you are physically healthy and at a stable weight, if you have realistic expectations and if you are bothered by the appearance of your stomach, tummy tuck surgery may be right for you.

How do you feel about your abdominal area?

If you have one or more feelings or conditions, you are a good candidate for tummy tuck:

*You had one or more pregnancies, and you don’t feel good about your skin’s saggy look

*You have lost significant weight, but there are still areas of excess fat

*You want to firm your abdomen, which has weakened and separated muscles.

Who decides for details of your surgery?

You and your doctor will discuss all details of your surgery and decide together. You can directly share your complaints and concerns about your stomach’s look with your doctor, and also your doctor will share his objective ideas about your tummy tuck surgery. Maybe your doctor will offer you liposuction together with tummy tuck. So this is an interactive process that your happiness and healthiness is a priority.

What about recovery of your surgery?

During your tummy tuck recovery, dressings or bandages may be applied to your incisions, and you may be wrapped in an elastic bandage or a compression garment to minimize swelling and support your abdomen as it heals following surgery.

You may leave hospital after a couple of hours, but generally we suggest you to stay 1 night. Our doctor will give you all instructions to follow after your discharge. During the follow-up process, the doctor will make at least two consultations before you return to your country.

Please note that there may be scars left after your tummy tuck surgery. Our plastic surgeons will take care to ensure that the scars will be hidden by swimsuits and clothes. Scars will fade over in a year.

What Makes Us different?

Dr. Karaaltin’s surgical team deploys our abdominoplasty patients with two unique modalities that renders the procedure to be more comfortable, precise, and superior in the aesthetic outcome.

The Trans-rectal sheath catheter

Postoperative pain management is of crucial importance from a patient perspective, and early mobilization and discharge are aimed after the abdominoplasty procedure. Dr. K has developed a special technique to introduce an epidural catheter under the rectal sheath connected to a patient control anaesthetic pump. This modality enables a smoother recovery period with a decreased use of opioids, early ambulation and might result in shorter hospital stay.

The Vibrosat-pro Technology for A refine precise and well-defined abdomen Dr. K and his surgical team are highly experienced with over 1000 cases of liposuction with the Vibrosat-pro technology (Moeller, Germany). The technology utilizes the vibration expansion concept to emulsify the fat tissue selectively, whereas providing a profound skin contraction in return. With this modality it is able to provide the abdomen a concave side walls, a significant definition in the flanks and love handles and an overall better outcome.

Do You Have a BMI requirement to be a candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

A lot of patients have this question when they come in for a Tummy Tuck.BMI (body mass index) is a great tool doctors use to help determine the patient’s general type as well as the surgical strategy. However, BMI does not completely determine if a patient is healthy enough to undergo surgery and anaesthesia. There is no strict BMI cut-off for a surgical indication, but as a patient’s BMI goes above 30 extra precautions, more pre-operative testing and perhaps splitting the procedure into multiple sessions.
